Kristin shares her skills and her experiences to encourage children to strive for excellence. In my interactions with her as a speech pathologist, she has demonstrated a deep concern towards helping students with special needs increase their overall functional skills. Her concern and dedication to children has led and inspired her to work in the most difficult settings. I have seen Kristin encourage our students and forge teams for both academic and social enrichment. In short, Kristin draws out the best effort from everyone she comes in contact with. Her depth of knowledge and ongoing fervor for professional development inspires me to be a better clinician. She is a remarkable occupational therapist and I value the times we’ve worked together. Kristin is a fervent advocate for children, and above all, a compassionate human being.

Thanks for your support today.  Your idea to revisit these goals once back in school was smart, thank you.

Thank you all for everything you have done for [our son] this year.  It was a challenging year, but it turned out for the best.  We got a placement at Kennedy Krieger.  We are happy. We are here because of what you had done for [our son] and our family.  While I know what you do is relentless work, it makes such a difference. If you want proof, just look at [our son].

Just wanted to touch base and let you know that [our son] is doing great!  He just finished his 6th year at [his program] and this was the best ever in terms of behavior and compliance.  A lot of his progress is due to your work with us and we can’t thank you enough.

There are many aspects of having a child with needs that are overwhelming but for me the interface with school and education is by far the most stressful. While I am generally a very analytical, organized and assertive person, I have no formal training in child development or education broadly never mind the dense, esoteric and at times mind-numbing process that surrounds negotiating a child’s Individualized Education Program (IEP).  Enter Kristin Conaboy Edwards–a fierce yet collaborative IEP advocate.  What I love about Kristin most is that she is extremely strategic.  With parents, she learns your broad goals for the child and navigates towards that outcome (e.g. is this the school we want or are we looking for something else/private).  With the school, she forgoes the meaningless details but drives hard and without apology on the stuff that matters.  This allows for a cooperative relationship with the school if they are amendable but it also forces the issues and (even the conflicts) that are necessary to get my child served.  And all of that without me having to be the bad guy or stress out that I missed some important detail.  I should also note that we recently switched to a school district that Kristin did not know well and I have been incredibly impressed at the grace and speed with which she has navigated a new system. Bottom line–I don’t enter IEP meetings–never mind the tough IEP meetings–without her.

You were a spectacular witness, Kristin.  Your knowledge base is enormous and your poise and delivery were perfect.  You really helped us make our case.  Thank you very much.
